To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, drop by any of our library locations to pick up a llama craft kit or a Peruvian recipe card while supplies last. This drop-in event is available on September 15.
Hispanic Heritage Month was first observed in the United States in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded to a 30-day period in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15 to October 15. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.
