Join us for our true crime book discussion group. This month’s title is: Covered with Night: The Story of Murder and Indigenous Justice in Early America by Nicole Eustace.
In Covered with Night, historian Nicole Eustace explores a 1722 attack by two White fur traders on an Indigenous hunter near Conestoga, Pennsylvania—an event that sparked complex investigations and debates over justice. The case revealed a clash between Native American approaches to justice, focused on community and reparations, and the colonists’ British-based emphasis on punishment. Through this powerful reconstruction, Eustace challenges long-held assumptions and revives a forgotten vision of justice with modern relevance.
