The average American discards 4.4 pounds of garbage every day. Without recycling, we add unneeded pressure to our environment by extracting more and more resources. Enter the Student Creative Recycle Art Program (S.C.R.A.P. Gallery). S.C.R.A.P. Gallery's unique approach to helping solve environmental problems teaches children and their caregivers to be creative in their recycling habits and take care of the planet. S.C.R.A.P. Gallery addresses two of today's most urgent issues - the environment and the education of our youth. We work with youth to promote conservation and reuse by teaching them to creatively practice the Four R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Responsibility.
Located in Cathedral City, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery works with all schools, community groups, and city government to provide environmental education and creative art recycling through field trips, outreach programs, and special events. S.C.R.A.P. also maintains a materials and exchange program for local businesses in Cathedral City.
Recognizing this concept, our growing waste debate and climate change are exceptionally relevant as the pandemic, global conflicts, and economic uncertainty dominate the news and national discussion. Although economic survival is significant, the hardships and potential harms we face in our environment have not gone away. Climate change, nonrenewable and hazardous forms of energy, habitat destruction, etc., are all dangerous entities. The creative initiative and leadership that S.C.R.A.P. Gallery brings forward provide for discussion, thought, and action. S.C.R.A.P. Gallery's efforts have greatly assisted in saving the environmental and creative health of the Coachella Valley and beyond.
