The term “Steampunk” was coined in April 1987, but the core of the concept dates back to 1822 with Charles Babbage’s Difference Engine, and even further to 1812 with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstien. Co-Founder of Steampunk Empire, JP Dean hosts a bumpy, yet scenic, airship ride through history and alternative history on a tour of Steampunk’s conception and evolution into the current day.
About the Speaker: JP Dean has an extensive history of Steampunk event planning that spans back to 2008. Co-founder of Steampunk Empire social media site, founder of the International Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, and more recently the Chicago Steampunk Exposition, he has spent the last 17 years curating and cultivating growth in the Steampunk fandom. Dean’s latest project, the “Steam & Sorcery” LARP game, combines his passion for role playing games with his dedication to Steampunk.
