This tour provides a wonderful opportunity to get a first-hand look at a day in the life of Amish women. Learn how they do household chores and run businesses without electrical appliances and modern technology (and the drama of reality TV's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills).
Several Amish women will serve as your hosts throughout the day. Elaine will show you how she makes cinnamon rolls (with samples, of course). Afterward, she'll share how she gets ready to host church in the Amish Community and her son Seth will explain an Amish church service. Before leaving Elaine's home, you'll enjoy a delicious, home-cooked "Thrasher Meal" in her gas-lit dining room! Next, a handcraft experience is yours in touring a family-owned, hand-woven basket business. You'll see lovely hand-woven baskets of every shape and for every purpose in this country shop located on a family farm. Family members demonstrate and talk about the processes of turning plain reed into something of beauty and function. A rug shop visit is next on the tour, where Ruth will give a rug weaving demonstration on her loom and sewing machine. And the tour can't end without providing you with dessert (and its accompanying demonstration) or the chance to ask questions you may have about Amish lifestyle and dress. Linda and her Old Order Amish family are just the answer! At the end of the day, you are sure to go home with a renewed respect for these women who live a simple life.
