Online Program: The Founding Of Our Country: 1775-1797

Gary Midkiff begins this series with April 19, 1775, and the “shot heard round the world” – the opening of the battles of Lexington and Concord. We'll conclude with George Washington stepping away after two terms as President on March 4, 1797, while warning us to beware of domestic partisanship or trusting foreign nations.

During these 22 years of early American history, we surprised the crowned heads of Europe twice – first by earning our independence from Great Britain and then forming a federal republic under a Constitution that Washington successfully led for two elected terms. Our path was tortuous and we often teetered on the edge of failure, but a group of exceptional people – generally referred to as the “Founding Fathers” – collectively led 13 contentious states, despite personal differences with each other, to form our country.

This 22-year journey will be presented in six, 90-minute Zoom segments throughout 2024. John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Nathanael Greene, Alexander Hamilton, John Hancock, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Livingston, James Madison, Gouverneur Morris, George Washington and many others look forward to meeting you.

This program will take place online on Zoom. After registering, you will receive a link to the Zoom webinar at least three hours in advance of the program.
