Schaumburg Township was once home to an influential, mid-century modern architect and an artist whose most famous work is the Doomsday Clock. And they both lived, at different times, in the same eye-catching, Meacham Road house that is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Here's your chance to learn more about Paul Schweikher, the architect who designed the home, and Martyl Langsdorf, the artist who lived there.

Schweikher House: Art & Architecture is a 1-hour docent-led tour of the Schweikher House, Studio and grounds, wrapping up with a presentation of Martyl Langsdorf’s art by Local History Librarian Jane Rozek at the Schaumburg Township District Library. Bus docents will share fun facts about historical sites along each route. Bus and Schweikher House tours co-presented by Schaumburg Township Historical Society and Schaumburg Township; art lecture presented by the Library.

The cost of the tour is $25 per person. This event is intended for adults 18 years and older. Space is limited. (Handicap accessibility is minimal at Schweikher House - the home has entry stairs.) Register online with the Schaumburg Township Historical Society using the register button below.

Tour check-in is at Schaumburg Township (1 Illinois Blvd. Hoffman Estates, IL) at 9 a.m. with a return at 1 p.m. Masks are required on the bus and per building mask requirements, including masks required for all program attendees inside Schaumburg Library. The tour is subject to cancellation due to changing COVID mitigations. In the event of cancellation due to COVID, refunds will be issued.
